About Us

During the Spring of 2006 Ken Strugnell was asked a question from a person who was trying to decide whether to go with QBH Construction or another highly recommended builder. The question was simply, "What sets you apart from other builders?" Following is Ken's response to him...

Dear Mike,

When we first met you asked me what it is that sets me apart from other builders, or something to that effect. In twenty-five years of building, that is the first time I was asked that question. Since our meeting I have given a great deal of thought to what it is, exactly, that separates me from most builders.

As I mentioned to you at that time, I feel there are many good builders out there. One of the biggest differences would simply have to be that for me, building is not, nor has it ever been my main source of income. It has always been a passion of mine. There is something very special about seeing something evolve from nothing but someone's dream. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my clients, regardless of their budget, in helping them realize these dreams.

In the beginning I used to hear, through the grapevine so to speak, that other builders referred to QBH Construction as a "part-time, short-lived operation." They were concerned that because I was a schoolteacher and building "part-time" I would beat all of their prices. Although always competitive, I was never the least expensive builder. I took pride in building homes that, dollar for dollar were better built than my competitors. I realized from the beginning that hiring top-notch, quality trades was crucial to longevity and success. I also took pride in my "availability" to my clients on a regular basis. Most of these builders from the 1980's are no longer in business. This, I believe, speaks for itself.

I take a great deal of pride in the quality of my work and in my ability to work with my clients. I am a "fussy" builder and although it may be rather cliché in today's business world, I build every house and give it the same attention as if it were my own.

I am looking forward to retiring from teaching in June of 2006 and continuing with my other passion, building.

Sincerely,

Ken Strugnell

QBH Construction was given the opportunity to build Mike's house and to work closely with him and his wife throughout the five- month construction period. It was a pleasant and enjoyable building experience

Note: Things have not changed since Ken retired from teaching in June of 2006. He is still a small builder who custom- builds two or three homes per year. He enjoys working with the homeowners on a regular basis and has no desire to grow the company to a point where he loses this personal daily contact with his customers.
